Here’s high-tech proof that a full-size SUV can offer outstanding performance—and remarkable fuel economy. Available Gen IV Vortec 5300 V8 model feature a technological advance called Active Fuel Management. In normal driving conditions, Active Fuel Management deactivates four of the V8’s cylinders when less power is needed—essentially turning the V8 into a V4. When you need V8 power, it’s automatically there for you. The engine always starts and idles on eight cylinders, and runs on eight during brisk acceleration or when carrying or towing loads. What’s more, it switches between V4 and V8 operation so seamlessly that you’ll never notice the transition. In testing, the new system increased fuel efficiency by up to six percent. 

A new HYDRA-MATIC six-speed automatic (standard with Yukon Denali) features a variety of innovative features. Driver Shift Control (DSC) lets you select a range of gears to suit variable driving conditions. Shift into “M” and the currently engaged gear number is illuminated, and all gears up to and including that one are accessible. If “4” is illuminated, for example, gears 1- 4 are accessible. As conditions vary, you may change the range of available gears by simply tapshifting the plus-minus button up or down. Another advanced feature —Tow/Haul mode — raises upshift points to use more of the engine’s power for strong acceleration, and it raises downshift points to help slow your Yukon using engine braking. Grade Braking (automatically activated in Tow/Haul mode but disengaged when Driver Shift Control is active) assists in maintaining desired vehicle speeds on downhill grades by automatically implementing a shift schedule that utilizes the engine and transmission to slow the vehicle. The transmission control module monitors brake pedal usage, vehicle speed, acceleration and other operating parameters to detect when your Yukon is on a downhill grade and the driver desires to slow the vehicle by pressing the brake. When appropriate conditions are met, the Grade Braking shift schedule is implemented.

All Envoys come with antilock 4-wheel disc brakes, 17-inch alloy wheels, and 4-speed automatic transmission. They also offer rear-wheel drive with available traction control or GM's all-surface Autotrac 4WD with low-range gearing. Head-protecting curtain side airbags that cover the first and second seating rows are optional.

Other options include a rear load-leveling air-spring suspension, power-adjustable pedals, rear DVD entertainment, satellite radio, and a stereo/navigation system with control touch screen.
